Boundaries
Unlimited wishes each and every one of you a Happy Year!
No planes fell from the sky; no countries stopped functioning,
no banks collapsed; but the reality is that many subtle Y2K
software problems are going to be uncovered throughout this
year -- no matter how much preparation software developers
have taken to avoid Y2K problems. I can assure you that
all reputable software companies, like Boundaries Unlimited,
will do their best to minimize the impact of these problems
and provide whatever remedies are possible.
Here are the AviMate issues we are aware of so far.
1. AviMate uses the date reported by the Windows
Operating System in its various services. Before going
into AviMate or any other system date-aware program, we
recommend that you go into your Windows Control Panel and
double-click on its Date/Time service. If it is not
showing the correct date and time, you have a fundamental Y2K
problem. Try setting the date and time correctly, then
shutdown your PC, and power it back up. Go back into the
Date/Time service and see if your PC now reports the correct
date/time. If it does, your system date-aware programs
have a chance of working correctly. If it did not retain
the correct date, you might try to use a Y2K Detect &
Correct Program, such as the one that Parsons Technology or
contacting your PC manufacturer for an updated BIOS chip.
(We are aware of PC's less than a year old having non-Y2K BIOS
chips so don't assume that you are OK without checking it
out!) These fundamental computer Y2K problems are often
the cause of software reporting dates like 1980.
2. We have uncovered an AviMate Y2K issue with the
spread-sheet-like grids where you input date information, such
as the one in Clutch Activities. For example, last
year's clutches may show a date of 2099 instead of 1999.
(These grids are unfortunately based on third-party software
-- we have reported the problem to them.) At
present the only way to solve this problem is to change the
Operating System's short date style to a 4-digit year.
You can accomplish this by opening your Windows Control Panel
and double-clicking on its Regional Settings service.
Select the Date tab and set the Short Date Style to a 4-digit
year, such as M/d/yyyy or MM/dd/yyyy.
We will keep you informed of other AviMate Y2K issues and
remedies by additional email and through our website at http://avimate.com.
